Just a step away

We recently took a family ride up Sassafras Mountain. The view is amazing! As we were taking in all the beauty of God’s creation, the girls did what every girl does: Out comes the phone, taking picture after picture in search of the perfect photo to post on social media. Their phones are more advanced than mine and I refuse to upgrade because this guy’s phone is paid for! So, I always let them do their magic with their fancy iPhones and tell them to send the pictures to my phone when we get home. As I was scrolling through the adventures, they had captured on their handheld portrait studio I came upon this picture that is posted above. See, I forgot to mention that the lookout tower on the mountain is directly on the North Carolina and South Carolina lines. That is what the painted line represents in the picture. My son was blown away as I jumped from one side of the line to the other and explained to him that I was jumping from state to state! It was not until I got home and looked at this picture that this thought crossed my mind. The line was leading me upwards to a place of beauty. It was a path for me to take. Just one step away and I could be in a totally different place. It was so easy to step from where I was and be in a totally different place and not even be able to tell the difference. If we are not careful while we are on a path to a place of beauty, we can easily step over the line and be in a different place and not even know it. It is so easy to step away from the path that God has for you. We must pay attention to our surroundings and the path that is before us. Stay on your course and don’t cross the line. Now in this pic, it is easy to see where to step back and be back where you belong but in our spiritual walk, it is not always that easy. That is why we must stay on the path and on the side the Lord wants us to be on. Joshua 24:15 says “choose you this day whom ye will serve…” Just remember just one step away in the wrong direction can put you in a totally different place.
